Tips For Caregiver's

People with Alzheimer's disease frequently become more disoriented after dark or when waking. Leaving a night-light on in the bedroom may be helpful.

Giving Back

Mike and I have decided to start a caregiver support group in our community for people who care for Alzheimer's and Dementia patients. We often have very different interests, but caring for family and giving back to the community are two we have in common.

Through my initial research, I discovered that our local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association offers a class, once per year for caregivers like us who wish to begin a support group. If you choose to conduct a group under the auspices of the Alzheimer's Association the class is required prior to beginning the group, however upon completion you retain the option to start your own group that is not affiliated with the Association. This year's class is in April so we still have a little time to decide how we will progress.

Most support groups meet once a month for approximately 1.5 hours. Typically, the venue is a local church, YMCA, or nursing home facility that cares for Alzheimer's and Dementia patients. I am very excited about this new adventure.

Wish us luck! :-)
